The umbrella organization in the US that acts as a public voice in promoting mathematics for all students is the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).  Their mission is to be a national public voice of mathematics education, providing vision, leadership, and professional development to support teachers in ensuring equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students.  

The state of California is an affiliate mathematics organization to NCTM.  The California Math Council (CMC) is committed to improving mathematics learning in the private and public classrooms throughout California, North America and the world!  As an affiliate of NCTM, CMC is involved at the state level to ensure teachers, administrators, parents and teacher-educators in California a voice in Sacramento.  CMC works tirelessly to present conferences, communication through written articles, and keeping members up to date on current events that effect the math classroom.

CMC is divided into 3 sections:  North, Central, and South.  Orange County Math Council (OCMC) is an affiliate under CMC-South (CMC-S).  OCMC is the local organization whose purpose is improving the teaching of mathematics in all education institutions in Orange County.  We offer events such as technology night for teachers, Math Field Day North and South for students, and support CMC-S at the Palm Springs Conference.  Please consider becoming more involved in OCMC – together we can make a difference for teachers and students in Orange County mathematics education!
